The 3 Vital Components That Make Up A Positive Mental Attitude

Positive Mindset: How to Develop a Positive Mental Attitude

I was nearly 30 years of age before I was exposed to the world of positive mental attitude books, or even had any idea what PMA(Positive Mental Attitude) meant.

For the first 30 years of my life I had battled constantly with maintaining a positive directive in an at times negative world. Disappointment, letdown, unfulfilled dreams plus a whole host of other attackers of my dreams bombarded my world – and I seemed to have no back up support mechanism in place in my life to guide me.

The 3 Vital Components That Make Up A Positive Mental Attitude

But that’s when PMA books entered my world. They changed my thinking and changed my life forever.

But what are the three vital components that have sustained my positive mental attitude throughout the past two decades – where at times it has been surely tested.

  1. Positive

In a world where, via the media in particular, we are bombarded by so much negativity – it is a challenge to remain positive. So what I did to build up a positive reserve in my life was to discipline myself to speak only positive words, read only positive books, limit the amount of time I exposed myself to any form of negative reporting, surround myself with positive friends and associates, listen to positive and uplifting speakers, and basically build a positive world in and around me.

I have never ignored or denied the negative that is prevalent in our world, because stuff happens – and it has happened to me on a number of occasions during that period. But with every negative event that has happened in my own life I began to search for the tiniest of tiniest, at times, of positive seeds that would arise from each adversity. I began to seek the good, even in the baddest of bad.

The result – a positive life with a positive hope and a positive future that has flowed over and onto my children and on to those whom I have the privilege to influence with my life and my words – both written and spoken.

  1. Mental

‘As a man thinks in his heart so is he’. Those powerful words were first recorded in the Bible, and it is within the mind where we must invest our greatest time and expend our greatest effort. For victory or defeat is first won in the mind – for the battle that rages is fought there.

As Henry Ford once said, ‘If you think you can, or if you think you can’t – you’re right.’

So this is why I make it my habit to fill my mind with material that has been written through the ages by those who believed in the power of the mind. Napoleon Hill, the author of Think & Grow Rich, declared that ‘whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe he can achieve.’

So if that is the case, then your investment into the building up of your mind is so important. For the magic of thinking big is constructed only if you tend to it on a daily basis. For it is in your mind where dreams are dreamt, plans are planned and visions are envisioned. And it is in the mind that those things are then sustained until they materialize and make for a better world for all of us.

  1. Attitude

There are two attitudes – negative and positive.

A negative attitude will destroy you. It will destroy your family. I can attest to the truth of this because I have watched those who have invested their days in the development of such an attitude, and they are no more, and the fruit of their lives is disastrous.

On the other hand, I have watched the lives of those who have spent their years fostering a positive attitude – and although their lives have been tested by similar storms faced by those who had a negative attitude, their lives have blossomed, and the positive overflow is evident in the lives of their family and in those whom they influence.

None of us can avoid the storms of life, but any one of us can choose, by our attitude, how we will face those storms.

A life spent concentrating on the development of a negative mental attitude will crash and burn, and yet a life spent concentrating on the development of a positive mental attitude will soar. And even when those who have lived with a positive mental attitude do die (for we all have to die at some point) their positive influence lives on through a powerful, positive and living legacy.

So how have you found a positive mental attitude has helped your life so far?
