ARE YOU TRULY HUNGRY FOR SUCCESS? The Power of Being Hungry for Success
There is a benefit that arises from being hungry. It inspires the search. It initiates the hunt. It releases the motivator. It unveils the inspirator. It invites creativity, and it provokes innovation.
None of us like hunger pangs, but the very fact that we’re hungry – for whatever reason – stirs us into action. There is an inbuilt mechanism that is set in motion to solve the problem, overcome the challenge, or climb the mountain that stands before us.
The Many Forms Of Hunger
Hunger for the achievement of a goal. Hunger for the fulfillment of a dream. Hunger for the provision of a better life for you and your family. A hunger to be in the company of mentors and peers who have similar values to you.
So stop feasting on failure. Refrain from partaking of that dinner called defeat. Pull away from feeding with fools. Wisdom says that there is a fast that you need to partake of if you are ever going to be fully satisfied. And that place is the place called hunger.
For it is there that you will discover the greatest benefits. It is a chosen fast where you choose to delay gratification, so that when your win comes, it comes in the form of a full and magnificent menu. And it is here that you can eat secure in the fact that you have paid the price, that you have walked the talk, and that you have done all this with a spirit of humility and integrity and with patience.
Honor the hunger and give it pride of place in your satiated life.
How To Build A Generation Of Winners
Raising a family is something that very few of us have been trained to do. So much of our philosophy in bringing up children has been formed by what we saw demonstrated by our own parents.
But may I suggest that there is probably a much safer and more effective model to building your parental skills? And that is to draw the wisdom of child raising from the greatest book ever written.
From the Bible I can find at least three powerful principles that will set you up to be a successful parent with champion children.
The three areas are to do with coaching, showing and teaching.
- Coach
‘Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.’ Proverbs 22:6
As a parent, you and I are instructed to train. That means we must take on the role of a coach. We as parents will need to instruct our children about discipline, teamwork, correction – remember spare the rod and spoil the child? We are going to have to teach them about saying sorry, about forgiveness, about money management, and even about time management.
There is so much that we get the opportunity to teach. Man, no wonder we as parents flop into bed at night, totally exhausted.
But realise this, that your consistent coaching will set your child on the path of success that lies before them in the game of life. You are given the awesome opportunity to set them up to win.
- Show
‘And you father do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and the admonition of the Lord.’ Ephesians 6:4
The one thing that will make your children more excellent than most is if you live a consistent life. They are looking for an example to follow. You’re their hero, and although they are extremely forgiving – the older they get they will demand consistency.
They require a role model whom they’re proud to follow. And when you make mistakes – apologize to your children. Your children want to see someone who guides them by living a life that shouts out loud – ‘Do as I do, not just do as I say’.
Don’t expect your children to clean their room if you haven’t cleaned out your shed. Always show by example.
- Teach
‘And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.’ 2 Timothy 3:15
The very first investment my wife and I made when our first child was born was to purchase one hundred dollars worth of books that told the Bible stories in a fun and childlike manner. Lots of pictures that went with the words.
Every night, before our daughter went to sleep, we would read one of these to her – and with each new child that joined our family, in the years that followed, we pulled out those same books and did the same. These little books and the stories contained within their pages formed a foundation in our children’s lives that has held them in good stead for adulthood.
We didn’t leave it up to schoolteachers, Sunday School teachers, children and youth pastors or sports coaches to teach our children. We taught them ourselves and led them in the way that the good book instructed us to do – with outstanding results.
And even to this day I still sing to my adult children my favorite song – ‘Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong. They are getting stronger all day long.’ (Yes I edited the words to suit my belief that weakness is not a part of my family’s makeup.)
And they love me all the more for it – which is a parent’s greatest reward.
Final Word On Hunger For Success
The facts are though that if you’re hungry for success – make certain that hunger leads to the benefit of not only yourself, but remember others and in particular take your family along for the wonderful ride of your life.
